WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, AND WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU MAKE?

I’m Chidashi and I’m from Seattle. I make dance music inspired by color and texture - taking ASMR textures and layering them into my colorful and morphing synths.
WHO ARE YOUR MUSIC INSPIRATIONS?

Skrillex is the GOAT, but I also take a lot of inspiration from hyperpop artists: Jane Remover, kmoe, and Bladee have all been really inspiring lately. I also love the new and budding genre of color bass!

Artists like Sharks and Skybreak have really been pushing the boundaries of sound design. All these artists bring an artistic integrity to their music that I really appreciate.

ANY STYLE INSPIRATIONS?

No individual inspirations, but I take a lot
of my personal style from the indie/grunge scene in Seattle! I love a proper getup with a grunge twist i.e. wearing pleated khakis spray painted with graffiti.

WHAT WOULD PERFORMING LOOK LIKE
FOR YOU?

Have never performed! I’ll start DJ sets
in late 2024 - some lowkey events with friends!

WHO DO LIKE TO WORK WITH?

Ableton! Ableton! Ableton! I love it so much. It’s my work and my video games. I have been collaborating with artists across the spectrum here in LA: vocalists, producers, and even actors/poets.

I love collaborating with my close friends,
though I’m typically unconcerned with what we make. I like it as a process of learning new things from eachother.

WHAT THEMES ARE YOU MOST INTERESTED IN EXPLORING IN YOUR MUSIC?

Color and texture. I love dance music as it exists, but I feel there is a whole world of sound that remains unexplored. There is no limit to sounds you can make with digital sound design, and coupling that with real-life found sounds like rain and wind has been a really creatively liberating process. I really feel like I’m creating something new.
YOU HAVE SOME COOL PHOTOS, CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE CREATIVE PROCESS BEHIND MAKING THEM? WHO PHOTOGRAPHED YOU?

Thanks! Jake Quan! All credit to him. He’s an awesome photographer here in the LA area, originally from Australia. He’s taken photos of some big artists and was nice enough to take photos of me. A really solid and interesting guy.

We had a fun day at the Huntington Library in Pasadena taking the photos. It felt like a natural combo of our creative visions.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAV PART OF MAKING MUSIC?

The way it never ends to be a vehicle for living life. I’ve met the most unique and amazing people doing music, and at the same time I’ve gotten to know myself on a deeper level.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING PART?

The biggest challenge for me is finding a balance between music and life. I could lock myself in my cave and make music for days at a time but I’ve come to realize it’s not the healthiest thing for me or my music.

WHAT ARE YOUR OTHER INTERESTS BESIDES MUSIC?

I love cooking! And eating. Italian food is always a favorite of mine but I really enjoy making breakfast food of all varieties. For a summer I lived in Slovenia working for a record label and I got so much food inspiration from my time there. Love the simple approach and focus on good ingredients that can stand alone.
